Tweed’s pedigree (or shall we call it family history seen as he isn’t a pedigree dog?) is quite random and although it is dotted with Field trial champions it is a little irrelevant. But just in case anyone is interested I have added it below.
There is a reason I don’t have the details of his Grandpa’s mother, and that is that we acquired Teal as a stud fee, but never registered him as we didn’t see the point (a decision I now feel was regrettable). Sadly the owner of that Bitch passed away from cancer many moons ago now, and we have no way of gaining the details of who his mother was as we are unsure of anyone else who got a puppy from that litter. So that will probably remain a mystery.
Kenness Rock (more commonly known as Duke) was our dog and he was a giant, so it always seemed odd that Teal was so short in stature, and that trait was taken by his daughter (Misty) and it seems one of his grand-daughters (Penny) has the same small but perfectly formed features!
Tweed is the largest of the litter, the first born, the only one born totally naturally and the only Male who lived. Sadly his brother (who I fought to deliver) had a cleft palate and although we tried to keep him going he never made it.
All the litter are coming along cracking and as of today (26/08/11) have all had there first shooting day on Stanhope Estate. Tweed has had his first retrieve and as far as my Dad’s concerned he seems to be fine, a little bit distracted by the other birds and rabbits around him but it was his first day and he’s just but over a year old. I am hoping to run him in the gundog club working tests but I think I’ll wait till post-grouse season into next year before I set away with that.

Good website.
Haha, fast is an understatement with her – Laika’s nickname on two separate shoots is “The Lurcher”! She’s a very tall, leggy dog and can clear literally any fence without banking. She’s also black, like Tweed, but I know that Lafayette Tolley, Delfleet Garlic and Theoweir Turramurra Teal were all shades of yellow, which is where Tweed’s dad’s colour might have come from.
What’s Tweed like temperament-wise? Laika’s very driven, yet sensitive with a bit of a stubborn streak – makes training a bit of a challenge!
I was at Raby this year – entered my young yellow Lab into some of the tests. It’s a fantastic day out, need to take more money with me next year though!
I think my friend from Stormford Golden’s saw you there she ran a one of her Goldies in the tests.
He’s very very loving but like Laika in that he’s shall we put it “driven”. He’s been good this year still soem bits and pieces we need to tweak with him but he hunts like a good ‘un.
Might see you there next year then!
Tweed is a stunning lad
. I have a black Lab, Laika, who’s slightly related to Tweed (through Chartnells Baby Doll, who is her Grandmother on the sire’s side, and Lafayette Tolley, who is her GG Grandsire on her dam’s side).
We’re based in the NE too, and she’s my picking up dog during the season, along with my other Lab.
Lovely to see some local relatives!
So your Laika is related on Tweed’s dad’s, mother’s side…
How’s yours working out, she’ll be quick off the mark if she’s anything like Tweed, out of interest what colour is she, only his dad’s fox-red and I’m wondering which line it came through from?
I’m hoping to compete him in the GRCN’s any dog entry trial at Raby this year, so we’ll see how he does under proper test conditions.
I’ll pass on the compliment!
